The KSL Lab retreat was a perfect blend of scenic exploration, team bonding, and scientific engagement. Over the course of two days, we traversed historic trails, indulged in delicious local cuisine, and engaged in meaningful scientific discussions.
Day 1:
A Journey Through Nature and History We gathered early at Nangang Station at 7:30 am to begin our adventure. After a scenic train ride to Fulong, we set out on the Caoling Historic Trail (草嶺古道). This trail offered a mix of natural beauty and historical intrigue, with notable landmarks like 遠望坑親水公園, 跌死馬橋, and the 雄鎮蠻煙碣, each with its own story to tell. The crisp morning air and breathtaking vistas kept us energized as we hiked toward 觀景亭, where we enjoyed a hearty Fulong lunch box while soaking in the panoramic views. For those feeling adventurous, an optional hike to 灣坑頭山 added an extra dose of challenge and excitement. The trail concluded at the 大里天公廟, where some of us enjoyed a quick snack before heading to Dali Station.
In the evening, we dined at 玥成上海美味鮮湯包, savoring their delicious soup dumplings, and spent the night at HOTEL BEGINS 倉箱蜜境文旅, a cozy and stylish retreat. A seaside night walk at 潮境公園 Chaojing Park offered a tranquil close to the day.
Day 2: Science and Leisure The second day began with a leisurely breakfast at the hotel, followed by a mix of scientific activities and optional leisure options, such as swimming or exploring exhibitions. The retreat concluded with a relaxing bus ride to Keelung and a train journey back home, leaving us refreshed and inspired. This retreat beautifully combined the serenity of nature with intellectual curiosity, strengthening our bonds as a team and igniting our passion for science. It was a truly unforgettable experience!
