Our lab recently embarked on a memorable retreat to Taiwan’s high mountains, conquering three peaks in a single journey: Hehuan Jianshan (合歡尖山), Shimen Mountain (石門山), and Nanhaha Mountain (南哈哈山). Towering at 3,237 meters, Shimen Mountain is known as the most accessible of Taiwan’s “Hundred Peaks” in the Hehuan Mountain range, offering breathtaking alpine views without the need for technical climbing.

The crisp mountain air, dramatic ridgelines, and sweeping panoramas created an unforgettable setting for both exploration and reflection.

For many in our group—especially the half of our members from abroad—this was a rare opportunity to experience Taiwan’s unique alpine landscapes up close. Hiking together through changing light and shifting clouds, we strengthened our sense of teamwork and shared purpose beyond the walls of the lab.
